The United States in 1868 by TheAresProject The United States in 1868 by TheAresProject
This map shows the US, with all of its territories and outlying possessions, as of 1868, as President Seward's term is ending.

The map is of SoaP (the Story of a Party), an alternate timeline I'm writing on AH.com.

Seward would've been a decent President (the guy was stab-proof, and way more experienced in politicking than Grant).

William Walker held on longer ITTL, long enough to throw his lot in with the Confederacy in the Civil War. The Union launched a pre-emptive naval expedition that overthrew him before that could happen, after which the Nicaraguans were pressured into filing for annexation, partly to give the US control over a good canal zone, and partly to secure control of the country's economy.

I like the map (wish I had a link to the thread on AH.com), but the sheer amount of rivers that aren't particularly major ones like the Mississippi, Ohio, or Colorado sort of takes away the focus for me.

Ask, and you shall receive ([link])

The rivers were on the basemap; however, I agree that they're a bit bright against the main colour.
